Which Nokia phone to choose? (Fanboys’ guide 2008)

So, Christmas is coming (at least for many of us), which is time to surprise yourself with a nice new mobile packed with all the latest and greatest features. Of course, if you are out shopping for form over function, then you are most likely deciding between an iPhone, a Samsung or maybe a Nokia E71.

But if you are looking for the latest features and would like to choose between the top Nokia models, here is my take on the interesting new technologies and their availability in various phones (blue highlighting the best choices):

Nokia’s top phones in 2008

  • UDP = User Data Preservation,
  • micro USB = usage of standard micro USB port for data transfer or charging+data,
  • FP2 = Symbian 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 OS,
  • FOTA = Firmware Over The Air,
  • MP = camera megapixels,
  • list price = comparation of the list prices, the N96 being the most expensive and therefore 100%. Price might differ based on carrier subsidization (many times costs nothin) or Christmas deals ;-)

(I’m not mentioning GPS, front-camera, WLAN, UPnP media sharing or other standard elements like simple led flash, video recording, copy and paste, TV-Out etc. These are quite common and can be expected from any Nokia E- or N-series phone.)

As a summary, the N85 would be the perfect Christmas phone, if the User Data Preservation (UDP) would be available – there is no reason why it shouldn’t become part of a next firmware, but you never know.

If you live in the US, your choices are still quite limited, which is a bit sad, considering Nokia’s big promises of turning around the market trend.

What is your take? Do you see other technologies, which worth mentioning? Which device would you take?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
